You may be familiar with the phrase ‘Cyber Essentials’, but when it comes to understanding what it really means, are you aware of all the benefits it offers to your business?

The way in which we work has been evolving for decades in line with our lifestyles, attitude and, of course, technology. However, as businesses have advanced their online presence, this has created more room for cyber threats, and in many cases, attacks.

As the challenge to become more cyber aware grows, it is important that businesses stay up to date with their protection, which is where cyber essentials fits perfectly.

What is Cyber Essentials?

Cyber Essentials is a government-backed scheme that aims to help businesses protect themselves against cyber-attacks. It is an industry supported programme which encourages companies to follow specific and set guidelines to ultimately become more secure and cyber aware.

Upon completion, you are awarded a certificate that lasts for 12 months which allows you to fully showcase your cybersecurity dedication.

What are the benefits of Cyber Essentials?

Cyber Essentials training offers many benefits and has become a widely known accreditation for businesses everywhere. Suitable for companies of all sizes, Cyber Essentials helps showcase your company as a well-established, cyber secure and cyber aware business.

Furthermore, the process of becoming certified promotes employee cybersecurity training, and can be a great tool to ensure that all employees are not only cyber aware, but also aware of your internal security processes.

Cyber Essentials vs Cyber Essentials Plus

Like many certifications, Cyber Essentials is multi-layered, offering two levels of qualification.

Cyber Essentials is your standard security package, which includes access to online self-assessment questionnaires. Once completed you are then awarded a certification that remains valid for 12 months.

Cyber Essentials Plus, however, is a more advanced security package, it has added benefits such as dedicated helpdesk support, onsite assessment and no resubmission fees. Much like Cyber Essentials, you are then awarded a certification that remains valid for 12 months.

Why become Cyber Essentials certified?

Taking a proactive stance against cybersecurity is important for all businesses, not only to remain GDPR compliant, but also to protect your business and the employees and customers within it.

Becoming certified in Cyber Essentials, not only shows that you as a business are serious about cyber threats but it may also give you the edge over your competitors, giving you up to 80% more protection as a business.
