How to change your status in Outlook
You can change your own presence status in Microsoft 365 by clicking the status drop-down menu below your name on Microsoft Teams. This will allow others to quickly see what you are up to.

Have you ever wondered what those mysterious colourful icons next to your contacts’ names mean when you type them into the ‘To’ field in Outlook?
In short, they indicate the presence status of the contact in Microsoft Teams (in the past Skype for Business) providing a quick way for you to see their availability for meetings. It works for internal and external contacts who use Microsoft 365.
- A green tick means that recipients are available to contact.
- A yellow clock signals that they are away, and their computer has been idle, while a red dot means that they are busy.
- A purple arrow means they are out of office and a purple dot means that they have set up an automatic reply feature in Outlook.
- Finally, a grey dot indicates that they are either offline or their presence cannot be detected.
