Did you know that 18.5% of Bristol’s population are children? Furthermore, the growth in the number of primary school-aged children in Bristol in the last decade is one of the highest in the country.
In this thriving and innovative city, and in fact, all over the UK, we have all adapted to working from home. We have seen businesses temporarily close, and schools too, in a bid to stay safe. However, the impact that has had on many children around Bristol, is that they are not prepared to work or learn from home.
This month we are proud to work with local charity Creative Youth Network, to gather and distribute IT equipment to those who need it most. And we are reaching out to you to join us. If you have equipment you no longer need, please get in touch.
A little about Creative Youth Network
Creative Youth Network is a Bristol-based charity that works with over 9,000 of the city’s most vulnerable young people every day. They have youth workers, creative professionals, volunteers and campaigners on hand to work closely with young people, enabling them to reach their full potential in a safe and fun environment.
Providing Bristol’s young people with educational tools
Throughout the pandemic, it has become apparent that not everyone is equipped to work or be schooled from home. Creative Youth Network has therefore been hard at work with help from Bristol City Council, to identify families with children suffering from digital poverty, and with the help of generous funders, have been able to provide children with access to laptops and tablets to ensure that they can continue their education while in lockdown. It has also enabled children to access much needed personal support from Creative Youth Network services, which subsequently moved online.
The Journey So Far
So far, Creative Youth Network has been able to deliver over 100 laptops and tablets to families who need them the most. However, the need is greater still, and with the lockdown continuing to affect children across our region, they need that extra bit of support.
How can you help?
We hope you can join us in this effort to ensure young people are able to stay safe at home, whilst still continuing their education in a supported environment.
