Improving cyber security: what it means for your business

There is a lot to learn when it comes to cybersecurity, and it can often be confusing. It may seem there is always so much to be done, and as soon as one practice is in place, another threat arises.

Budgets may have to be adjusted, or a workload increased, but don’t let this put you off. It is time to think differently! When it comes to cybersecurity, it’s not all about working in the moment, but being more proactive with your methods. Build your defence and work to strengthen it as your business grows.

Cyber-attacks are ever-evolving, this is true, but they tend to follow the same tendencies. Working out how you can improve your business security without breaking the bank is what we are here to help with.

Supporting your staff is key, ensuring everyone is aware of your business security practices will help keep your defence consistent throughout the workplace. Do your staff have the right equipment in order to stay secure? Working from home has become normal for many, but you must still be ensuring compliance throughout your workforce. Do you have a dedicated security team/ champion? Whether you have the skills internally, or outsource to a security team, having dedicated people for the job guarantees not only your protection but also informed answers to those queries many may have.

We can’t stress enough how important training is, whether you conduct it yourselves internally or via external sources. You must make sure that everybody understands the risks and are following the correct procedures, whether that is through staff meetings, internal documents or weekly catchups, it is time to make your business more efficient.

Not only staff reviews, but IT reviews also, does your business have the right software installed? Are your staff following a uniform approach? Is everyone aware of your practices? By regularly reviewing these policies you can make sure that they are still a good fit for your business. Talking to employees may also reveal pain points and improvement areas which you were previously unaware of.
